Summer reading led us to discover that Donegal, once again, is high on priority list for travelers. According to Fight Network, who produced The World’s Best Journey List for 2018 - together with more than 500 top travel journalists, agencies, bloggers and editors – a drive along the Wild Atlantic Way was ranked higher than a trip on the Shinkansen Bullet Train through Tokyo and Kyoto (Japan) and higher than a hike of the Blue Mountains in Sydney (Australia). And Donegal is highlighted for its charming coastline and the Irish speaking heritage.
Also, we recently found out that you can even buy a property here in Donegal, where, it is claimed, the American-Irish author of ‘Gone with the Wind,’ Margaret Mitchell, stayed in 1920s while tracing her Irish roots. Could this be the house that inspired her to create Tara? Coolmore Manor House overlooks Donegal Bay and sits on elven acres of land and it is for sale at the asking price of 2 million euro. Any takers?
And that’s the good news – a multitude of angles to be explored for those choosing to join us next year at one of the three writing weeks we’ll organize here:
The very good news is that, following feedback from our Friends, who asked us for more time to organize their holiday for next year, we have extended the Early Bird Registration period until December 1st, 2018.
To benefit of the generous offer, we invite you to become a Friend of Ireland Writing Retreat now.
The offer is valid for all writing retreats in 2019, including the unique Black Sea Writing Retreat and the new Paris Writing Retreat.
